Facebook Buddies-up with Bing, Sets Sights on Google

Posted by The Staff on May 11, 2012 10:10 AM

Facebook and Bing announced they are strengthening their relationship related to searchy.  Baird Equity Research summarized the new relationship as follows:

"Essentially, Bing is enhancing the usefulness of search results by allowing people to consider input from their social contacts or experts on certain subjects, for example, on choosing a hotel in Hawaii or picking a new car."

Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) still has the largest chunk of the search engine market with 70 percent globally, and analysts at Baird don't think the Bing/Facebook buddy-up is likely to affect Google's business in a meaningful way. But it does help Bing diversify itself from Google . . . and if a little Facebook (NYSE: FB) mojo rubs off on Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), that wouldn't hurt.
